French sugar production is projected to rise in 2023 due to a slight increase in beet production and higher sugar yields, but this has not led to increased exports as the market is dominated by third-country sugar, particularly from Ukraine. This has impacted France's traditional sugar markets in Spain and Italy, while exports to Belgium are on the rise. The European market's increase in production and the decrease in French beet cultivation areas, despite higher yields, are expected to result in total French sugar exports of 1.6 Mt for the 2023-2024 campaign, a 4% decrease from the previous campaign.
