The ongoing war in Ukraine has had a significant impact on the global wheat market, with Ukraine and Russia collectively contributing to about 30% of the world's wheat production. This situation has led to increased costs for bread in Brazil, with the price of French bread seeing a adjustment of between 4% and 20% per kilo, depending on the region. This price hike is part of a larger trend where bakeries and confectioneries in Brazil are facing rising costs for soybean oil, packaging, fuel, and electricity, all of which are impacting their ability to maintain operations and compete. Paulo Menegueli, president of the Brazilian Association of the Bakery and Confectionery Industry (Abip), is calling on mills and other suppliers to avoid further price increases at this time to prevent more severe impacts on the sector.
