According to the French interprofessional agency for kiwis (BIK), the French kiwi yields for the 2023/2024 season are good, but yields from the rest of Europe are smaller. The sizes of the French kiwis are better than expected, despite heat waves and drought causing a delay in development and resulting in a poor harvest. The European kiwi yields are expected to decline by 4% in 2023 due to extreme weather conditions, but the yellow variety is expected to gradually increase. BIK will continue its research and experimental work, including studying the spoilage rate of kiwis and finding alternative solutions to limit the spread of the brown marmorated stink bug. They are also exploring the feasibility of growing kiwis under solar panels and creating a database to track the French origin of kiwis.
