French milk price falls further in March

The milk price for conventional milk reached a peak of 46.96 euros per 100 liters of milk with 3.8 percent fat and 3.2 percent protein in January. In February this fell to 46.76 euros and in March to 45.73 euros per 100 liters of milk. This means that the price is still considerably higher than in March last year, when it stood at 39.39 euros per 100 litres. A large part of the milk, last year 16.7 percent, is destined for regional products in France. That is the AOP/IGP milk. With AOP products, the milk must come from the same region in which the product, such as brie, is made. At IGP, the requirements are less strict and milk for the regional product may also come (partly) from another region. The share of AOP/IGP milk was still 17 percent in January.
