The French association Rural Families has reported that with the exception of cherries due to frost, the prices of most fruits and vegetables have recovered and are back to almost pre-pandemic levels. The overall price drop was 8% from June 2020 to June 2021, with a 4% decrease in fruit prices and an 11.5% decrease in vegetable prices. Organic fruits saw a 5% price drop, while conventional fruits were 3% cheaper. Conventional apricots and apples became more expensive, by 18% and 9% respectively, while melons became cheaper by 21%. The association urges the public to choose fruits and vegetables that are more affordable to support accessibility and to eat healthily. They also recommend that authorities implement a 'fruit and vegetable check' for the poor.
