Italy has seen a 15% decrease in fruit and vegetable consumption over the past two years, a reduction of 900,000 tonnes, according to the Coop 2023 report. This is the lowest consumption rate in 20 years, falling below the World Health Organization's minimum recommended daily per capita consumption. The decline, most noticeable among children, adolescents, and in the north-west regions, is attributed to factors such as adverse weather affecting production, inflation reducing purchasing power, and increased prices.
