Gaucho barley meets beer industry standards

According to the Economic Bulletin released this Thursday (9) by Emater/RS-Ascar, barley crops in Rio Grande do Sul are performing well, with most of the plantations in reproductive stages: 21% in heading, 70% in grain filling, and 5% in the beginning of maturation. The climate, with alternating rains and firm periods, has favored the development of the crop, although high humidity in some regions may increase the pressure of head diseases. The productivity expectation remains high and the grains have presented adequate industrial quality. In certain areas, however, there is a record of ryegrass infestation, a difficult-to-control plant at this stage, which competes for nutrients and may interfere with the harvest. In the administrative region of Erechim, the crops are between the stages of heading and maturation.
