The Georgian Grain and Flour Producers Association has called on the government to extend the temporary import duty on flour, barley, and bran from Russia to aid local farmers and stabilize the grain market. Initially implemented in summer 2023 and extended twice, the duty has generated 35 million lari for the budget and helped local mills resume operations by restoring competitive conditions between flour and wheat imports. The duty, which addresses low demand for Georgian grain, is expected to remain in place beyond September 2024.
