Due to aflatoxin, Georgian companies have faced an increase in the return of hazelnut export batches this season, reports EastFruit. Baya Salukvadze, founder of Agritrade and Georgian Products Renaissance, noted that the return incidents negatively affect the image of Georgian hazelnuts and overall harm the supplier's reputation. According to her, the batches of goods are mainly returned at the EU border, where strict controls are in place. "Although we have increased the volume of exports, this year also saw an increase in the number of returned trucks, as individual batches did not meet either microbiological or chemical standards, such as aflatoxin content. We are all working together to popularize Georgian hazelnuts, especially in the European Union countries, and each such return further damages the image.
