German potato displaces Dutch potato

For several years now, Dutch chip factories have increasingly been supplied with potatoes from abroad. This mainly concerns chips potatoes from Germany. In addition, the Germans are supplying increasing quantities to the Belgian industry. From July to October, the Dutch chip industry imported 630,500 tonnes of potatoes from abroad. This quantity is 52,400 tonnes higher than in the same period last year. This represents a growth of 9 percent. Lower supply The processing of Dutch potatoes remained stuck at 580,300 tonnes. This means that the supply of Dutch potatoes is 16 percent lower than a year ago. In the first four months of the 2024-2025 season, Dutch farmers supplied 110,700 tonnes fewer potatoes to the factories than a year ago. A total of 1.2 million tonnes of potatoes were processed in the months of July to October. This quantity is 4.6 percent lower than a year ago.
