The almond sector grouped in FEPEX has welcomed the initiative of the German retail group Edeka, which has decided to sell Iberian almonds instead of Californian almonds in its supermarkets, in order to respond to consumer demand to reduce transportation distances and promote sustainability in purchases. The measure, according to FEPEX, contributes to valuing European production, located mainly in Spain and Portugal. According to its magazine and under the titles "Almonds made in Europe" and "Almonds from Europe: simple and sustainable," Edeka explains that it has opted for its new line "Herzstücke" of almond products, made with European almonds instead of Californian ones.
