The German Ministry of Agriculture has forecasted a potato harvest of approximately 12.7 million tonnes for this year, with Lower Saxony being the leading contributor. The average yield per hectare across Germany is 43.8 tonnes, mirroring last year's figures, and the total cultivation area has grown by 9.3 percent to 289,300 hectares. Meanwhile, France is expected to have a substantial potato harvest of around 7.6 million tonnes, with a yield of 42.6 tonnes per hectare for mid-early and storage potatoes. The expansion in the potato cultivation area in both countries is attributed to the significant increase in potato prices over the past two years, driven by the demand for raw materials from chip companies.
