In 2022, there was a decrease in the slaughter of bovine animals, pigs, and chickens compared to the previous year. Bovine animals slaughtered decreased by 2% with a total of 755,000, pigs decreased by 9% with a total of 10.5 million, and chickens decreased by 2% with a total of 298 million. The trend of decreasing slaughter numbers has been ongoing since 2017 for bovine animals and pigs, and since 2021 for chickens. Provisional figures for January 2023 show a continued downward trend with 62,158 bovine animals, 815,773 pigs, and 24,613,341 chickens slaughtered.
