The industry is facing a crisis due to the sharp reduction in cultivation area since 2019, leading to a decrease in production and a rise in raw material prices starting last year. In this context, the marketing strategies of 11 ginseng cooperatives that are dedicated to managing ginseng cultivation on farms, purchasing, processing, and distribution are being highlighted. Geumsan Ginseng Cooperative, the largest ginseng cooperative in the country with a 103-year history, focuses its economic business on diversifying distribution channels and digital innovation to strengthen business competitiveness. Geumsan Ginseng Cooperative Chairman Gang Sang-muk said, "Geumsan is the largest ginseng collection point in the country and the home of the ginseng kingdom," and "Since taking office as the first cooperative chairman in 2019, we have focused on solidifying our business performance, resulting in a transition to a black-figure structure in 2021, and in 2024, we have laid the foundation for growth with dividend payments on equity and the expansion of credit stores." This year's ginseng business focuses on new product development and packaging design improvement, including the sale of semi-finished processed raw materials, increasing the volume of commissioned processing, and strengthening external marketing. The products include 6-year root red ginseng concentrate gold, 6-year root Korean red ginseng powder, 6-year root Korean red ginseng gold, Korean red ginseng extract plus, and mixed products such as red ginseng blueberry, pomegranate red ginseng, 6-year root Korean royal jelly red ginseng gold, 6-year root Korean red ginseng tea gold, Samjiwon Korean red ginseng yanggaeng, Korean red ginseng jelly, Korean red ginseng effect candy, and red bean ginseng, totaling over 30 kinds. These products are distributed under the 'Samjiwon (蔘之元)' brand, which means 'the origin and the best of ginseng'. The quality is guaranteed by HACCP, ISO14001, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice for Health Functional Foods), and GAP (Good Agricultural Practice).
