The Rosario Exchange warns that Argentina, the largest grain producer, may lose market share due to a trade deal between Vietnam and the United States
Progress in trade negotiations between the United States and Vietnam could significantly reduce Argentina's substantial share of the Vietnamese corn and soybean meal import market, according to a report by the Rosario grain exchange published on Friday.
According to the exchange, Argentina is currently the leading grain supplier to Vietnam: over the past five years, it has accounted for more than 50% of corn imports and 65% of soybean meal imports in value terms.
The exchange writes that Vietnam is increasingly turning to American agricultural products, seeking to avoid tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.
Trump cited a significant trade deficit with Vietnam, where transnational companies have large production capacities, as motivation for threatening to impose so-called "reciprocal" tariffs on this Asian country.
