In August 2020, the combined milk production in New Zealand, EU-28, U.S., Australia, and Argentina reached a record high, marking a 1.4% increase from the previous year. This makes up over 90% of the global exports of butter, cheese, whole milk powder, and nonfat dry milk. The growth rate in milk production had decelerated from 2018 until November 2018, when there was a decline, but it remained positive and stabilized from August 2019 through August 2020. The most significant increases were in New Zealand (5.3%) and Argentina (5.0%). This marks the third month in a row of widespread production gains, the longest such streak in the past five years.
