According to the forecast, a slight reduction in sowing areas is expected in the main exporting countries, while in other regions, especially in Asia, a moderate increase is expected. In the EU countries, sowing areas are expected to remain at the same level of 6.1 million hectares. However, the abundant harvest of 2025, especially in Southeastern Europe, and particularly in Romania, may encourage producers to expand sowing areas. In other member countries, a slight reduction in sowing areas is expected. Sowing areas in Russia are expected to remain stable at 3 million hectares throughout the year after the significant expansion of sowing this season. At the same time, according to a study by the Union for the Promotion of Oil and Protein Crops and Grains in Germany (UFOP), sowing areas in Ukraine are likely to decrease by 100 thousand hectares, to 1.3 million hectares.
