The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) of Zimbabwe has introduced a new payment structure for farmers, switching to US dollar payments for grains like maize and traditional grains, sunflower seeds, and soya beans. The new rates have seen an increase from the previous prices, with maize and traditional grains now fetching US$390 per tonne, sunflower seeds at US$713 per tonne, and soya beans at US$620 per tonne. This shift from the previous mixed payment of US dollars and local currency is welcomed by the Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers Union (ZCFU) and marks a significant move towards improving farmers' financial stability. Additionally, GMB has committed to paying farmers for their delivered produce within a 21-day timeframe, aiming to ensure national food security by keeping silos full and honoring President Mnangagwa's hunger alleviation promise.
