(Goheung=Yonhap News) Reporter Son Sang-won = Goheung County in Jeollanam-do has established a foundation for exporting premium rice produced in the region to Japan.
Goheung County and Heungyang Nonghyup signed an agreement with the local company Kankoku Nori Japan in Tokyo on the 4th to expand the export of Goheung rice and agricultural and marine products to Japan.
Goheung County announced that it will collaborate with the company to export Goheung agricultural products worth $2 million over three years, focusing on rice.
In light of concerns over the depreciation of the value of Korean rice due to some low-priced exports, Goheung County plans to adopt a differentiated strategy by exporting premium crops that are profitable.
Kankoku Nori Japan has a track record of supplying to 10 countries, including the famous Japanese shopping mall Don Quijote, and Goheung County expects it to help secure sales channels for local agricultural products.
Goheung County Mayor Gong Yeong-min said, "We will strive to firmly establish Goheung rice as a premium brand, contributing to increasing farmers' income and revitalizing the local economy."
Goheung County also held a Goheung rice gift event and checked sales trends at a distribution store in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
