Goiás starts annual sanitary break for common bean

The annual sanitary break for the cultivation of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) begins next Saturday (20) in Goiás. According to Normative Instruction No. 3/2024 of the Goiania Agricultural Defense Agency (Agrodefesa), the measure is mandatory and covers crops located in 57 municipalities, remaining in effect until October 20, 2025. The objective is to control the virosis transmitted by the whitefly (bemisia tabaci), including the common bean golden mosaic (Bean golden mosaic virus), a pest that compromises the production of the legume. According to the president of Agrodefesa, José Ricardo Caixeta Ramos, the sanitary break period is part of the action plan of the State Program for the Prevention and Control of Pests in the Common Bean Crop. “The golden mosaic can result in losses of 40% to 100% of the crop for the producer.
