The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry in Turkey, Vahit Kirişci, has announced increased support for wet cocoon breeding in Kulp district, Diyarbakir, doubling the previous amount to 160 lira per kilogram. This announcement was made during the 'Diyarbakır's Agricultural Perspective Workshop in the Future' at Dicle University. The workshop highlighted the advancements in agricultural legislation and the introduction of agricultural insurance in Turkey, which has become a leader in this sector. The city of Diyarbakır is noted for its potential in agriculture, especially in producing wheat, lentils, cotton, and raising buffaloes and sheep. The completion of large irrigation projects is expected to further boost the city's agricultural capabilities, potentially adding more sectors to its lead roles. The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) President, Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, emphasized the importance of agriculture in providing food and generating foreign exchange, stating that Turkey has the potential to feed a significant portion of the world's population and increase its strategic influence.
