Goose and duck slaughter increased in 2023 in Hungary

Domestic slaughterhouses produced nearly 420,000 tons of pork, around 515,000 tons of poultry and 23,000 tons of beef in 2023 (carved weight, slaughtered and cleaned weight for poultry). In terms of the number of pieces, 9.4 percent fewer cattle, 0.9 percent fewer pigs and 7.8 percent more poultry halves were slaughtered in 2023 compared to the previous year. In the poultry group, turkey slaughter fell by 10.7 percent, but goose and duck slaughter increased (+21.9 and +16.2 percent) compared to 2022, compared to the low base. The slaughter of cows decreased by 9.5 percent, that of bulls by 12.5 percent, while the slaughter of heifers increased by 3.7 percent based on the number of pieces in 2023 compared to the base period.
