Published on Monday (April 27) in the Official Gazette of the Union, the Ministry of Agriculture's ordinance prohibits the importation, manufacture, commercialization, and use of performance-enhancing additives containing antimicrobials considered important for human or veterinary medicine. The measure also mandates the cancellation of the registrations of these products. Among these substances are avoparcin, bacitracin (and its variations), and virginiamycin, traditionally used in animal feed for performance enhancement. According to the text, existing stocks may be commercialized and used for up to 180 days. After this period, companies will have 90 days to collect the remaining products in the market. On the other hand, the government foresees the possibility of exclusive manufacturing for export, subject to authorization. Source: Globo Rural.
