The government of Mozambique is seeking to form a professional partnership to improve the milk value chain in the Beira and Dondo dairy basin of Sofala province. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADER) aims to revitalize milk production and operationize a milk and dairy factory in Beira, which was acquired in 2013 with an investment of over 50 million meticais. The factory is currently struggling due to challenges such as low productivity, lack of technical knowledge, financial weakness, and disease issues. To address these challenges, MADER is looking for new management, and plans to implement programs to increase milk production and improve existing systems. The country has a high reliance on dairy imports, spending over 200 million dollars annually.
