A project in Muğla, Turkey, has led to the successful cultivation of the San Andreas strawberry, also known as the Governor Lady strawberry, which is celebrated for its taste, aroma, and high yield. The product is sold for 12 liras per kilogram while still in the field. The project, which started with a 15-decare area in 2018, has expanded to cover 400 decares and has distributed nearly 2.5 million seedlings. The strawberry production in the province brings in an annual income of 43 million liras from 4,256 tons of strawberries. The initiative has provided a source of income for women entrepreneurs and has inspired women in one village to start their own businesses.
