The Karnataka State Government has announced incentives for sericulture farmers who produce bivoltine cocoons and has established new cocoon markets in Haveri and Kalaburagi. The government will pay Rs. 10,000 incentives to sericulture producers for every tonne of bivoltine sold in government silk cocoon markets. Additionally, the government will create hi-tech governmental cocoon markets in Kalaburagi and Haveri districts with NABARD support. The budget also promises an incentive to reelers for the production of raw silk and will develop cold storage units and a well-equipped training facility for all silk manufacturing operations on a PPP basis. The Karnataka Silk Marketing Board will purchase raw silk if cocoon prices fall to protect the interests of silk producers and reelers.
