The Lands and Agriculture minister, Anxious Masuka, has announced several projects aimed at transforming Zimbabwe's rural areas to support the country's ambition to become a middle-class economy by 2030. These projects encompass horticulture, fisheries, small livestock husbandry, and village nutrition gardens, designed to bolster food security and economic stability for rural households. The government plans to supply one million breeder goats for a pass-a-goat-scheme and drill 35,000 boreholes in each of the country's villages and resettlement areas, encouraging households to engage in horticulture and other agricultural activities. Additionally, the government intends to improve the quality of livestock and provide seedlings for mini-orchards to promote rural horticulture as an economic driver.
