Grain exports from Ukraine in 2023/24 decreased by 28%

Ukraine's grain exports fell by about 28% to 12 million tonnes in the July-June 2023/24 marketing season, agriculture ministry data showed on Wednesday. The ministry reported that by November 23 last year, a day later, Ukraine exported 16.6 million tons of grain. Export volumes this season include 5.5 million tons of wheat, 5.6 million tons of corn and almost 860 thousand tons of barley. In the previous season, by this time, Ukraine had exported 6.5 million tons of wheat, 8.8 million tons of corn and 1.34 million tons of barley. Traders exported 2.8 million tonnes of grain in November, up from 3.4 million tonnes by November 23, 2022, the ministry said. The ministry gave no explanation for the drop, but traders and farmers' unions said blockades of Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea and Danube River were the main reasons.
