Greece is currently facing a severe water shortage, with several regions, including the islands of Serifos, Thassos, and Agathonisi, as well as the town of Platanias in Crete, and 14 districts, declaring emergencies. The shortage is impacting both agricultural and domestic water usage, leading to the necessity for desalination and drilling new wells. Residents and visitors are being urged to conserve water, and some areas have imposed restrictions on irrigation.
