The Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food has announced a compensation package worth 20 million euros for farmers impacted by sheep and goat plague and smallpox outbreaks last year. This announcement follows the approval of 13.3 million euros in compensation already paid out. The remaining 6.7 million euros will be distributed until December 2024. Additionally, the restoration of destroyed herds will be funded free of charge through a European measure, and farmers may expect increases in prices for sheep and goats. The ministry also outlined several financial support measures for livestock farmers, including tax reductions, special electricity tariffs, and subsidies for feed and uncovered loans.
