The article highlights a significant increase of 15% in the price of fresh green peas in Hungary compared to the previous year, reaching HUF 2,200 per kilogram in the 19th week. This price hike is part of a larger trend where the sown area for green peas has decreased from 21.7 thousand hectares in 2018 to 19.2 thousand hectares in 2019, despite a higher yield in the latter year. The delayed development of green peas this year due to cold weather in April has led to a slip in the harvest. Despite these challenges, Hungary remains a leading exporter of canned green peas in the EU, with a 28% decrease in volume in the first quarter of this year. The main markets for Hungarian green peas include Germany and Italy, although shipments to Russia have seen a significant decrease this year.
