Greens consumption in Russia may grow to 12 kg per person by 2030

By 2030, Russia is projected to see a significant increase in the consumption of greens, with each person expected to consume around 12 kg of fresh herbs per year, up from the current 7-8 kg. This growth is attributed to the rising demand for environmentally friendly and organic products, alongside the modernization of domestic greenhouse complexes and the introduction of advanced agricultural technologies. The production of greenhouse vegetables like cucumbers and tomatoes has already shown an increase in 2022, with the gross harvest reaching 1.59 million tons, up by 8% from the previous year. Additionally, the production of headed and semi-headed lettuces is anticipated to surpass 20 thousand tons by 2030. The Russian Agricultural Bank predicts that green crop production will grow by an average of 5% annually, reaching over 60 thousand tons by 2030, with large agricultural holdings playing a major role in this increase. The shift towards domestic production of lettuce is expected to reach 70% by 2030, as Russia explores vertical farming technologies to enhance vegetable and herb production in challenging climatic conditions, thereby reducing imports of salad vegetables and salads.
