[Korean Farmers and Fishermen Newspaper Reporter Du-hyun Lee] Nationwide onion-producing farmers have raised their voices, calling for price determinations reflecting production costs and an end to indiscriminate onion imports. Hosted by the National Onion Producers Association, the "National Onion Producers Conference" was held in front of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on December 22. Hundreds of onion farmers gathered at the conference, demanding "a guarantee of at least 800 won per kg for domestic onions" and "fundamental measures for imported onions," urging the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to respond. Onion producers pointed out that while production costs such as material costs and labor costs continue to rise, onion prices remain stagnant. They also noted that, on the contrary, imported onions are more expensive than domestic ones.
