Brazil's Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Tereza Cristina, and Guyana's Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, have held initial discussions to boost bilateral trade and food production in Guyana to supply the Caribbean market. The talks aim to cover areas such as trade, infrastructure, animal health, technology transfer, and agricultural defense, with a focus on family farming and cooperation with Embrapa in biotechnology and agro-processing. Guyana is interested in increasing its rice export quota to Brazil, while Brazil could import various products from Guyana. The meetings are set to accelerate negotiations, with a potential meeting in August, highlighting the potential for agricultural cooperation and regional food security within the Caricom bloc.
