(Goseong, Gyeongnam = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Sun-kyung = On the 10th, Goseong County in Gyeongnam announced that it has requested poultry farms in the region to strengthen disinfection and other preventive measures following the recent detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) in wild birds across the country. In Goseong, 18 farms raise 716,000 chickens. The county has mandated that each farm control the entry and exit of external vehicles, and if unavoidable, implement a three-step disinfection process: "hub disinfection facilities - disinfection during transport - disinfection at the farm entrance." It also requested that basic preventive measures be followed, such as separating and wearing boots for each barn, regularly disinfecting access roads, changing rooms, and the interior of barns. Furthermore, in the event of snowfall or heavy rain, it is required to re-apply hydrated lime and conduct a thorough disinfection of surrounding facilities to preemptively block contamination factors. If any abnormal signs such as an increase in deaths or a decrease in egg production occur, immediate reporting is required. Livestock Division Manager Jeong Dae-hoon said, "The low-temperature environment in winter increases the survival period of the virus, making the transmission possibility of highly pathogenic AI greater," and urged all farms to strictly adhere to preventive measures and actively cooperate in virus prevention.
