According to Nanhai Net, multiple durian cultivation bases in Hainan entered the harvest season in June, with an expected output of over 1,000 tons of Hainan durian, doubling last year's production.
Data shows that Hainan's durian planting area is approximately 50,000 mu, with about 10,000 mu bearing fruit this year. Currently, durian production areas in Sanya, Baoting, and Ledong have blossomed and will be launched in batches from late June to July.
At present, the Golden Pillow durian price at Hainan production sites is around 50 yuan/jin, Musang King is 85-120 yuan/jin, and Black Spine is 150-200 yuan/jin. Industry experts predict that Golden Pillow durian prices may drop to over 30 yuan/jin next year.
Currently, domestic durian cultivation mainly relies on imported varieties, with locally bred and promoted varieties still blank. To address this, Hainan is vigorously promoting durian variety breeding, aiming to cultivate high-quality local durian varieties more suitable for the Chinese market.
The Fruit Tree Research Institute of Hainan Provincial Agricultural Academy has collected over 60 high-quality germplasm resources from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and other regions. Through crossbreeding and radiation mutation techniques, they are screening new varieties with strong stress resistance and excellent quality. For instance, researchers are attempting to crossbreed Golden Pillow with local seedling germplasm resources, targeting the development of new excellent varieties resistant to typhoons and drought.
