This spring, following a super typhoon, heavy rains have caused significant damage to farms. Particularly, beekeeping farms near forested areas with many wheat plants have been hit hard due to the nature of beekeeping. Besides the direct damage from forest fires and heavy rains, the loss of wheat plants is expected to increase the damage to beekeeping farms. According to the Korea Beekeeping Farmers Association and the Beekeeping Association, a large forest fire in South and North Gyeongsang Province earlier this year caused damage to 19,061 bee colonies in 110 beekeeping farms. Additionally, heavy rains in July caused damage to 8,425 bee colonies in 86 farms in South Chungcheong Province. To make matters worse, the damage from the heat wave is also significant. The sweltering heat is causing further distress.
