One of the biggest contradictions of agriculture in Transylvania is that while it produces a huge amount of raw material, a significant portion of the added value is nevertheless created abroad. Grain, oilseeds, and other agricultural products often leave the country unprocessed, only to return at a higher level of processing – such as feed or meat products. Romania is today one of Europe's most significant agricultural producers. Annually, 20–30 million tons of grain and oilseeds are harvested, with cultivated arable land exceeding 9 million hectares. Thus, crop production is strong and competitive. The Poultry Investment Group timely recognized this contradiction and, instead of the traditional commercial model, built its strategy on retaining added value locally.
