[Livestock and Fisheries News=Kim Sinji, Reporter] Due to highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) in the 2025/2026 season, 350,000 broiler breeder chickens are expected to be culled at poultry farms, leading to a decrease in summer peak season chicken production, raising concerns. According to the industry, the 350,000 broiler breeder chickens culled this time account for more than 5% of the total domestic broiler breeder chickens. Kwon Jeong-oh, executive of the Korea Poultry Association, said, "Most of the broiler breeder farms affected by the highly pathogenic AI this time are layer farms participating in production, and the culled flocks will impact chicken production from the first half of this year until August, which is the peak season for chicken consumption."
