A farmer in Ningde, Macao and Hong Kong, Ye Zhijian, received 3.01 million yuan in insurance claims after the price of large yellow croaker fell by 20% due to the new crown pneumonia epidemic. The Fujian Fisheries Mutual Insurance Association launched the first marine aquaculture product price index insurance for large yellow croaker in July 2020, providing price stability and helping farmers reduce losses. The insurance covered an area of 138,800 square meters and provided a risk protection amount of 187 million yuan to farmers. A total of 31 farmers received insurance compensation totaling 34.07 million yuan in March, demonstrating the effectiveness of the insurance in boosting farmers’ confidence and maintaining social stability in the fishing area.
