The Beef Environmental Efficiency Programme – Suckler (BEEP-S) and the Dairy-Beef Calf Scheme concluded on November 1, with a total of 24,092 suckler herds participating and receiving an average payment of €1,700 per herd. The scheme, which involved weighing cow-calf pairs, helped farmers identify efficient animals and sires, and was part of an initiative to promote lighter, more efficient cows. The Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF) highlighted the benefits of weighing animals for herd performance and efficiency, and highlighted the importance of the 200-day weight as a Key Performance Indicator.
