(Hwaseong=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Kwang-ho = The city of Hwaseong announced on the 18th that starting next month, it will replace the rice support for local senior centers from 'government-supplied rice' to the region's representative rice brand, 'Suhyangmi'.
This is part of a win-win policy aimed at providing high-quality rice to senior centers to improve the dietary satisfaction of the elderly while also helping local farmers expand their sales channels.
The city has been regularly supplying rice to approximately 770 senior centers annually, and plans to support a total of 4,660 20kg bags of Suhyangmi in the second half of this year. To this end, the city has secured a budget of approximately 580 million won.
Suhyangmi is a local specialty that has gained positive responses from consumers due to its taste and quality.
Mayor Jung Myung-geun stated, "This change in support items is not simply a rice replacement, but has the meaning of providing healthier and more delicious meals to the elderly and a stable income base for farmers" and added, "We plan to continue expanding welfare policies that actively utilize local resources."
