Brazilian farmers gathered 1.5 billion chickens in 2019, a slight increase of 0.1% from the previous year, making the country the third-largest chicken meat producer globally, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The states of Paraná, São Paulo, and Rio Grande do Sul were the leading producers. In addition, the country saw a record 4.6 billion dozens of chicken eggs produced in 2019, with São Paulo being the largest producer. Quail egg production also increased by 5.9% in 2019, with São Paulo being the leading region for both quail and egg production. The municipality of Santa Maria de Jetibá in Espírito Santo state was the largest herd and egg producer since 2015 and 2016, respectively.
