Hungary: If the Ukrainian rapeseed cannot come, then the oil will be brought in

Ukraine processed a record amount of rapeseed after the peak harvest in 2023. 4 million tons of seeds were available to the factories, 11 percent more than in 2022. Previously, the country exported 95 percent of its produce, mostly to the EU. However, in 2023, the Eastern European import freeze limited Ukrainian exports. Despite the larger crop, 40 percent less seeds (600,000 tons) crossed the western borders than in 2022. The entire quantity of goods entered Romania. Ukraine had to place an additional one million tons on other markets. We are halfway through the sale, so the same amount of goods must leave the country once again before the harvest in June. Even so, the local processing industry has to take in about four times the usual amount, roughly 800,000 tons. As seed exports stalled in the fall, oil rigs peaked.
