Peru's Ministry of Production has set a 2024 capture limit of 42,415 tons for bonito fish for vessels using purse seine nets with a hold capacity of 20 m3 or more. The limit is divided across the year, and fishing activities can be suspended if quarterly limits are reached or due to biological conditions. If the total quota is reached or if environmental or biological circumstances warrant it, fishing must stop. Measures must be taken to protect the spawning processes of the bonito, and if juvenile capture exceeds 20% for three consecutive days or five alternate days in a week, fishing in the affected area may be suspended for up to five days.
