Brazil: Imea updates corn production cost in MT and points to planting at 72.6% in the state

The IMEA (Mato-Grossense Institute of Agricultural Economics) released a report pointing out updates on the 2023 corn crop. The survey points out that the cost of the crop for the 2023/24 season was BRL 3,475.11 per hectare, registering an increase of 14.11% compared to the 2022/23 cycle. “Despite the retraction in the prices of the main inputs, the first estimate pointed to a higher cost due to the update of the modal production cost panels, in which changes were observed in the technologies used, as well as in management, stimulated by the appreciation of the price of corn in the last few years”, explained IMEA. Thus, the Breakeven Point for corn in Mato Grosso increased by 15.40% compared to the previous cycle. “For the producer to be able to cover his expenses, considering the COE and a productivity of 104.29/sc, it is necessary that he sells his bag of corn at at least R$ 45.47”.
