Since the beginning of the year, the pig farming industry has faced a major crisis as African swine fever (ASF) has broken out simultaneously in various parts of the country. The government has been reinforcing farm quarantine and restricting movement, but in just over two months since the end of November last year, four locations—South Chungcheong, South Jeolla, North Jeolla, and South Gyeongsang—have been breached in the national quarantine network. In this context, it has been identified that more than five out of 100 non-compliant pork processed products imported from abroad contain the ASF virus. There is growing demand for more proactive management of imported livestock products from overseas.
