Imports from Belarus prevent the rise in prices of potatoes and carrots in Moldova

In the last ten days of November, the average wholesale price for potatoes in Moldova stabilized at 6 lei/kg ($0.34/kg). This is quite a bit lower than the average price level for this product at the end of November last year. At the same time, in the past and this season, potatoes are the most expensive in the five years, EastFruit experts report. In the last marketing year, in the fall and winter, the rise in potato prices on the Moldovan market was restrained by the import of cheap and fairly high-quality potatoes from Ukraine. In November 2023, potatoes in Moldova were still more expensive than in Ukraine. But by the end of the month, price levels in the two neighboring markets converged - the difference between them is S0.05-0.06 / kg, but this is not enough for guaranteed profitable trading.
