In 2024, Ukraine imported seeds of grain and oilseed crops, sugar beets, and vegetables, totaling 381.3 million USD, which is a 3.2% increase from the previous year. Despite a decrease in the volume of purchases of grain and oilseed seeds from abroad by 3.8%, the imports of sugar beet and vegetable seeds have been consistently increasing for three years. The cost of sugar beet seeds per ton has also increased by 22.2% from 45,117 USD in 2023 to 51,493 USD in 2024, and the cost of vegetable seed supplies has increased by 27.3% from 22.8 million USD in 2023 to 28.9 million USD in 2024. These increases are primarily due to the purchase of higher-quality and higher-category seeds.
