The United States saw a significant increase in mango imports in 2021, with a 115% rise in volume and 181% increase in value compared to 16 years prior. Manuel Michel, the executive director of the National Mango Board, highlighted this growth, particularly noting the rise in per capita consumption and the importance of quality and variety. There are 21 countries exporting mangoes to the U.S., with Mexico being the dominant supplier. The mango industry aims to further increase consumption and quality, targeting 3.6 pounds per person by 2025 and 7.1 pounds by 2030. The II Peruvian Mango Digital Forum, organized by Agraria.pe, Francisco Seva Rivadulla, and the La Molina National Agrarian University, emphasized the benefits of mangoes, both in taste and health, during the pandemic.
